Sudden unintended acceleration and pedal confusion

What does your car do?

POLL – HOW DOES YOUR CAR REACT?

I wanted to know more about sudden unintended acceleration which resulted in me watching the below video, but now I’m more curious than ever.

And so on a small stretch of quiet road, I decided to test how my HYUNDAI would respond when I applied the accelerator and brake pedal together, in various combinations.

So here’s my car:

·       Accelerator then brake pedal = Accelerator cuts out and brakes apply,

·       Brake then accelerator pedal = Car initially accelerates, but as brake pressure increases, the accelerator cuts out and then the car slows.

Although I have known about pedal confusion, which has resulted in sudden unintended acceleration, I don’t think I really appreciated how easy it was to do until today.

So my question for you, if its safe (AND I STRESS SAFE), what is your car and how does it respond in the same circumstances?

I’m intrigued to see whether all car accelerators cut out if the brake pedal is depressed first, or whether as others have suggested, the car still accelerates.
