All new vehicles will have an event data recorder (EDR) from July 2024
BLACK BOX RECORDERS fitted to all new vehicles from July 2024
Why guess how a collision occurred when the vehicle can tell you?
This isn't new, but as of July 2024, all newly registered cars in the EU must come equipped with a black box type recorder called an event data recorder (EDR). This generally applies to vehicles under 3,500kg, so in effect most passenger cars and light commercial vehicles.
The data an EDR can provide is invaluable in determining how a collision occurred. It can provide a vast array of information including vehicle speed, how hard the throttle was depressed, the engine speed, whether the brake pedal was being applied, whether the electronic stability control (ESC) or anti-lock brakes (ABS) were active, how many people were in the vehicle, whether they were wearing a seatbelt and so much more.
Driven Forensics can provide a free assessment to determine whether a vehicle is fitted with an EDR. Where data exists, we can provide an end to end service, which involves attending the vehicle, capturing the data recorded on an EDR, analysing the data, preparing a Court compliant report for both civil and criminal cases and finally, present that evidence to a Court.
Contact us today to see whether a vehicle has an EDR fitted.
