Collision data retrieval (CDR)
Collision data stored on event data recorders (EDRs) can be accessed to provide you with an accurate image of what occurred during a collision and for up to 5 seconds prior to it.
What is collision data retrieval (CDR)?
Most modern vehicles have an event data recorder (EDR) contained within their airbag module. In the event of a collision, and sometimes a near miss, the EDR will record information about what the car was doing at that time and up to 5 seconds prior to the incident.
What information is available?
The information available will vary from vehicle to vehicle, but where information is available it generally includes vehicle speed, how hard the accelerator pedal was being pressed, whether the brake pedal was being applied, vehicle engine speed, whether the seatbelts were clipped in and more.
The most common system used to recover the data is Bosch CDR, although this is not a universal tool, therefore we have additional methods of accessing data for vehicles not compatiable with the Bosch system, including for vehicles such as Hyundai and others.
