How long does an MOT take? In all honesty, there is no set time for how long an MOT should take as the emphasis is on the quality of the inspection, rather than the time it takes to complete that inspection.
That said, generally speaking an MOT will take between 45 minutes and 60 minutes (1 hour) to complete. There will always be some test centres that take longer than this and some that complete it quicker.
Each MOT test centre has a risk rating. The DVSA risk rating tool was designed to help DVSA vehicle examiners determine which test centres may need visiting. Each MOT test centre has a RAG rating, which standards for red, amber and green rating.
The system used to determine whether a test centre is a green, amber or red rating is dependant upon an alogrithm designed by the DVSA.
One factor in that rating, is the time taken to complete an MOT test.
