Infotainment, a treasure trove of information

In the third and final part of our vehicle systems forensics data sources input, we look at infotainment systems and control modules.

Whilst freeze frame and EDR data is becoming more common place in the world of collision investigation, infotainment and control modules as a source of information are a rapidly developing area of vehicle system forensics.

The range of information from these additional sources is wide ranging and depends a lot on the vehicle being downloaded. It can include vehicle speed, which gear was selected, whether seatbelts were being worn, whether driver distraction systems were active, GPS data, device and phones connected to the car and so much more.

In this field, one of the main systems used to access the data is provided by the
Berla Corporation and as you can see from the image below the source of information will only increase with time.
