What information can event data recorders provide?
Nick - Driven Forensics • 21 March 2024

Most modern vehicles have an event data recorder (EDR) fitted. The most common retrieval tool is the Bosch Collision Data Retrieval (CDR) tool

Recent changes to legislation both in the UK and Europe, mean more and more vehicles are coming fitted with an event data recorder (EDR). By far one of the most common tools to retrieve the data is the Bosch Collision Data Retrieval (CDR) tool, but like many things in life, it does not work on all models. In particular, Hyundai, Kia and Tesla are but a number of makes which Bosch CDR does not support. Driven Forensics are continually increasing our capability, which means we can already download some of the makes which are unsupported by Bosch CDR.

But before you instruct us, you will want to know what information the Bosch CDR or EDR can provide?

Every vehicle provides a different range of information. Having been trained and actively downloaded hundreds of vehicles for the last seven years, we have found there is some commonality in the data recorded. This generally includes:

  • Vehicle speed,
  • Engine speed (RPM),
  • Accelerator pedal position,
  • Brake pedal position,
  • Which of the seatbelts were being worn,
  • Profile of the person in the seat (i.e. adult / child etc),
  • Forces experienced by the vehicle,
  • And the list continues to expand.

Driven Forensics have been practising in the field of collision data retrieval and event data recorder downloads for seven years, and in that time we have managed to gain substansial experience downloading and analysising that data.

Contact us today to find out whether your vehicle is supported and what information might be gained from a CDR or EDR download.
