Why you should be ready to access collision data from an EDR
Get ready for event data recorder data use
Why we're predicting an explosion in the use of event data recorder data
1. LEGAL REQUIREMENT - From July 2024, event data recorders (also known as EDRs) all newly registered cars and some commercial vehicles in the EU will be required to have an EDR fitted. The EDR data can be accessed relatively easily and contains information such as vehicle speed, the number of occupants, engine speed, brake and accelerator pedal use and more.
2. INVALUABLE SOURCE OF INFORMATION - EDR data is an impartial witness and can provide invaluable information for anyone investigating incidents involving vehicles. Moreover, it can also assist in determining what secondary vehicles were doing as well.
3. INDEPENDENT WITNESS - EDR data is impartial. It does not take a side, it simply presents the information it was recording at the time. Although the information is readily available, much in the same way that CCTV evidence needs to be considered in the context of the incident, EDR data also needs to be considered in context.
